Dental Emergencies: What to Do and How We Can Help

Dental emergencies don't follow a schedule. They can happen at any time, leaving you in pain and unsure of what to do. At Lucas Elite Dental Studio, we offer same-day emergency appointments and are here to help you through every dental crisis.

Common Dental Emergencies and What to Do

Knocked-Out Tooth: Handle the tooth by the crown, not the root. Rinse it gently without scrubbing. Try to reinsert it into the socket. If you can't, keep it moist in milk or saliva. Call us immediately — the chances of saving the tooth are highest within the first hour.

Cracked or Broken Tooth: Rinse your mouth with warm water. Apply a cold compress to reduce swelling. Save any broken fragments. Call us right away for an emergency appointment.

Severe Toothache: Rinse with warm salt water. Take over-the-counter pain medication as directed. Don't place aspirin directly on the gum. Call our office — severe, persistent tooth pain often indicates an infection or other serious problem.

Lost Crown or Filling: Keep the area clean. You can temporarily recement a crown with dental adhesive from a pharmacy. Avoid chewing on that side and call us as soon as possible.

Dental Abscess: A dental abscess is a serious infection that can spread. Rinse with warm salt water and call us immediately. For severe facial swelling or difficulty breathing, go to the emergency room.
